An 18-year-old Fudan University freshman died Thursday after falling from the fifth floor of his dormitory earlier in the morning, local media reported.

The student, surnamed Zhou, a history major from Shandong Province, was found around 1:30 am outside his dormitory, according to reports from the news portal xinmin.cn and the Shanghai Morning Post. An ambulance took him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police found a suicide note in Zhou's dorm room, but have not ruled out murder, according to a police press officer surnamed Ge.

"The note said the student was tired of the world," Ge told the Global Times, adding that police do not know what might have caused the student's apparent depression.

Police were waiting Thursday for the results of an autopsy on the student's body, Ge said.

One of Zhou's classmates told the Shanghai Morning Post that he was not very outgoing and liked to play online computer games.
