Traffic to be off limits for vehicles for race

ROADS and streets in Pudong New Area and Chongming County will be blocked for vehicular traffic from today and tomorrow and on Sunday because of the annual Tour of Chongming Island 2013 competition and the UCI Women Road World Cup 2013, Shanghai police said yesterday.

From 9am to 12:30pm Chongming Avenue, Chenhai, Caogang and Chenpang highways will be off limits for vehicles because of the annual cycle race. The ban on the vehicles will also be in place from 11:30pm to 3pm on Sunday.

From 8am to 12:45pm on Sunday, part of Yaoti Road - from Jiyang Road to Longyao Road - will also be blocked for traffic.

From 10:30am to 12:45pm, portions of Yongyao Road and Dongyu Road will be cordoned off.

While part of Jiyang Road, Zhonghuan Road, Huaxiao Highway, Huaxia Road E. and G1501 Expressway cannot be accessed by vehicles from 10:45am to 2pm.

The upper direction of the Yangtze Tunnel and Bridge will be cordoned from 11:45am to 2pm.

Vehicles will need special permits by the official organizers of the race to use the roads during the traffic restrictions.

Police said the ban on race routes can be altered for certain conditions during the race.
