MACAO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Macao's visitor arrivals in February increased by 11.5 percent year on year to 2,376,840 as the Spring Festival falls in February this year, according to figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Of all the visitors arriving in February, 53.2 percent spent only one day in Macao. The average length of stay of visitors held stable compared to a year earlier, at 0.9 day. Overnight and same- day visitors had an average stay of 1.8 days and 0.2 day, respectively, the figures showed.
A breakdown of the figures shows that visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 17.4 percent year on year to 1.5 million, accounting for 60.3 percent of the total. Among them, 754,692 traveled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, up by 46.8 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, visitors from Hong Kong increased by 15.8 percent to 602,137, while those from Taiwan and South Korea decreased by 2.7 percent and 13.3 percent, respectively, to 81,096 and 39,380.
Long haul visitors from the United States totaled 12,105, down by 6.6 percent; those from Australia, 6,571, down by 21.4 percent; and those from Canada, 5,236, down by 4.6 percent.
Long haul visitors from Britain numbered 4,348, increased by 3. 3 percent, and those from Russian Federation rose 9.8 percent to 2, 044.
