A taxi driver died Wednesday after he was run over by a van following a high-speed chase in Changning district, local media reported.
The taxi driver, surnamed Tao, got into a minor traffic accident with the van on Tianshan Road around 10:30 am, according to a report on the news website Xinmin.cn. A witness said the van's driver, surnamed Liu, fled the scene following the fender bender.
Tao pursued the fleeing vehicle down Tianshan Road from Shuangliu Road to Furongjiang Road, where the van stopped at a red light, according to the report.
Tao got out of his car and walked up to the van, according to the website. As he approached, the traffic light turned green and the van started to drive away.
It remains unclear what happened next, but Tao ended up getting caught under the van and was dragged for several meters, according to a news report aired on Shanghai Television Station.
A resident surnamed Wang told the Global Times that she saw blood and cerebral fluid on the ground at the site. A trail of smeared blood showed that Tao was dragged for at least five meters before the van stopped.
