Wu Shengli meets with Greek chief of naval staff

BEIJING, November 11 (ChinaMil) -- Wu Shengli, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and commander of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN), met with Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, the visiting chief of staff of the Greek Navy, on the afternoon of November 8, 2013 in Beijing.

Wu Shengli said that as an important part of the cooperation between the Chinese and Greek militaries, the cooperation in many fields between the two navies have maintained a good momentum of development. This is the first time for the Greek chief of naval staff to visit China, which is a milestone in promoting friendly relations between the two navies.

Wu Shengli expressed his gratitude to the Greek side for its full support in the evacuation of Chinese nationals from Libya in March 2011.

Wu Shengli expected that the two navies will further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, strengthen reciprocal visits of delegations and groups, especially exchanges between academies as well as professional delegations and groups, enhance mutual understanding, deepen bilateral friendship and learn from each other; strengthen reciprocal visits of warships and conduct professional exchanges and joint drill; strengthen naval escort cooperation, share experience extensively and continue to carry out exchanges and cooperation with the aid of the platform of escort operations in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, so as to make joint contributions to regional peace and tranquility.

Apostolakis said that the Greek side attaches great importance to developing its relations with the Chinese side, and hopes to further deepen exchanges and strengthen cooperation between the two navies, so as to constantly push forward the bilateral relations.
