SOUTH PACIFIC, September 12 (ChinaMil) -- A taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) which is to visit three South American countries, namely, Chile, Brazil and Argentina held an equator-crossing oath-taking and name-signing ceremony in the waters north of the Bismarck Archipelago at 08:30 on September 11, 2013, local time.
Li Xiaoyan, commander of the taskforce and deputy chief of staff of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, addressed the ceremony.
The taskforce is composed of the guided missile destroyer "Lanzhou" and the guided missile frigate "Liuzhou" of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLAN. It set sail from Sanya of south China's Hainan province, and sailed across the South China Sea, the Bashi Channel and the West Pacific, covering 3,000-odd nautical miles. After crossing the equator, the taskforce will sail across the South Pacific and arrive in Valparaiso in central Chile, the first stop of the visit.
