KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on Wednesday called for political solution to end the conflict in Syria, saying his country is against military intervention in Syria.
Anifah said military intervention could not solve the problem and would only result in the loss of innocent lives and damage to property.
"We never believe military intervention will solve the problem. We have seen what happened in many countries; what happened in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan. It has not solved any problem whatsoever, " he was quoted as saying by state news agency Bernama.
"Our position is very clear, that we must give an opportunity to the warring factions to sit down together through a dialogue and consultations and find a solution which brings benefits to the people of that particular country," he told a news conference when asked to comment on the potential military strike by the United States against Syria for alleged using of chemical weapons.
Anifah called on the Arab League to facilitate negotiations and political discussion to find a solution to the conflict in Syria.
