BEIJING, September 4 (ChinaMil) -- In the history of China's conscription and military recruits training, the year 2013 has special significance for the time of conscription which had been carried out in winter over the past 23 years is adjusted to summer and autumn from this year. Therefore, training season of newly recruited soldiers will be advanced from December to September. Relevant departments under the general headquarters/departments of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) have made preparations and deployment in advance.
The Conscription Office of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) initiated the nationwide conscription on August 1. Recruits were admitted to the army on September 1 and will be transported to recruits training centers in different troop units from September 5, and the conscription work will come to an end on September 30.
The Military Training Department under the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA drew up and issued a document on the arrangements for recruits training. The time, contents, standards and modes of training have all been defined clearly in the document.
The Organization and Discipline Department under the GSH of the PLA made specific requirements for the transportation, in-barrack management and assignment of recruits.
The Infrastructure and Housing Department under the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the PLA funded the barracks renovation of 1,480,000 square meters for the recruits training units and offered 246,000 pieces (sets) of new barrack utensils for recruits.
The Health Department under the GLD of the PLA issued a notice which requires the troop units undertaking recruits training tasks to strengthen prevention and treatment of training injuries, improve food supervision and pay more attention to psychological health of newly recruited soldiers.
The Quartermaster, Materials and POL Department under the GLD of the PLA adjusted the varieties of bedding and clothing to be distributed to the recruits. Each recruit this year will be given summer BDU (battle dress uniform) and individual supplies instead of winter uniforms.
