BEIJING, September 2 (ChinaMil) -- Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and chairman of the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS), met with a visiting delegation of the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA) on the afternoon of August 30, 2013 in Beijing.
Sun Jianguo said that as next-door neighbors, China and the ROK have similar culture and a good foundation for bilateral contacts. President Park Geun-hye recently made a successful visit to China, during which she and President Xi Jinping jointly built a bright future for the bilateral relations.
Currently, China-ROK relations are at a new historical starting point, and the two countries have important common interests and positive aspiration for exchanges and cooperation from developing respective economy to promoting global economic stability and recovery and from settling regional and international hotspot issues to responding to global challenges, said Sun Jianguo.
Sun Jianguo expressed that the issue of Korean Peninsula involves security interests of various sides including China and the ROK, and China's stand on the issue of peninsula security is consistent and clear-cut, namely, China sticks to the goal of denuclearization of the peninsula, adheres to safeguarding peace and stability of the peninsula, and persists in tackling issues of the peninsula through dialogues, negotiations and consultations.
The KIDA delegation including Bang Hyo-Bok, president of the KIDA, came to visit China at the invitation of the CIISS.
