BEIJING, August 30 (ChinaMil) -- At the regular press conference held by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the afternoon of August 29, Colonel Yang Yujun, deputy director of the Information Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and spokesman of the MND, answered reporters' questions about issues of China-Japan relations, Japan's arms expansion, relationship between the Chinese military and the U.S. military, development and construction of aircraft carriers, and so on.

No plan is made to hold bilateral meeting with Japan's defense minister

When reporter asked about the contents of the short talk between Itsunori Onodera, Japan's defense minister, and Chang Wanquan, minister of national defense of the PRC, during the dinner party prior to the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), Yang Yujun replied that: "We don't have any plan to hold a bilateral meeting with Japan's defense minister. Before the ADMM-Plus dinner party began yesterday, Itsunori Onodera came forward by himself to greet Minister Chang. Minister Chang emphasized to Onodera that it is high time for the trouble-maker to put things right. Minister Chang's remark should be clear enough for the Japanese side to hear.

Some reporters asked about Japan's military moves, such as Japan's launch of "Izumo" helicopter carrier, plan of establishing the reserve force of Marine Corps, purchase of U.S. military equipment, rebuilding of the Osumi-class transport ship, and so forth.

In regards to this, Yang Yujun pointed out that Japan has recently beefed up the development of its arms, continuously highlighted military issues, and frequently created regional tension on sovereignty disputes with neighboring countries. All these activities of Japan deserve high degrees of vigilance and attention from each country in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan should take lessons from history and make serious self-reflection. It should do more things conducive to regional peace and stability. We will keep paying close attention to related trends of Japan.
