Zhang Yang said that China and Japan are important neighbors to each other. The two countries have extensive personnel exchanges, cultural exchanges and economic cooperation. It is in the fundamental interests of their people for the two countries to follow a road of peace, friendship and cooperation. To maintain healthy and stable relations between China and Japan, we need to face up to the history, especially to properly settle sensitive issues between the two countries. Since last year, Japan’s practices on such issues as territory and history have seriously affected the mutual political trust between the two countries and the friendship between the people of the two countries. It is hoped that the Japanese side will correctly size up the situation, respect the history and reality, show genuine sincerity and come up with solutions, so as to promote China-Japan relations back to the track of healthy development.
Zhang Yang also briefed the guests on China’s national defense policy defensive in nature.
Yoji Koda expressed that Japan and China share many common interests and the bilateral relations are of great importance to both of the two countries. Therefore, the two countries are supposed to settle their differences through dialogues and consultations no matter how serious the difficulties are. Japan’s Forum on China’s Politics and Economy is willing to play a positive role in the improvement and development of the bilateral relations.
The delegation came to visit China at the invitation of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC).
