PLA junior command academies hold first joint military drill

BEIJING, April 27, (ChinaMil) -- The “Taihang Cavalry – 2013” military drill, jointly held by the Shijiazhuang Mechanized Infantry Institute of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the Shijiazhuang Ordnance Engineering Institute of the PLA, the Shijiazhuang Flight Academy of the PLA Air Force and the Bethune Medical Noncommissioned Officer Academy of the PLA, was recently concluded. This is the first joint military drill carried out by various services and arms of junior command academies of the PLA.

The participating 600-odd graduating cadets of the four military academies specialize in 19 majors including armored infantry detachment command, motorized infantry detachment command, flight command, nursing, radar engineering and guided missile engineering, etc.

The drill covered 20-odd subjects, such as assault and counter-assault, equipment rush repair, air alert, air strike, barracks medicine and war wound rescue and treatment, and used 30 kinds of equipment, including aircraft, tank, armored vehicle, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), self-propelled gun and medical service vehicle.

During the drill, the cadets were organized into such tactical units as ground armored assault group, air defense group, air strike group, equipment rush repair group and medical care group, and carried out a joint tactical confrontation in nearly-10-square-kilometer area.

The drill featured ground-air coalition, mutual coordination between combat units and combat support units as well as combination of different majors of each academy. The drill made the cadets practice command capability and skills, and enriched the mode of in-campus cultivation of junior commanders.
