Troops carry out targeted disaster-relief work

BEIJING, April 25, (ChinaMil) -- Food support: The second batch of 20 transport vehicles of the Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), fully loaded with 100-odd tons of much-needed materials for quake victims such as tents, rice, instant noodles and mineral water, arrived safe in hard-hit Baoxing county of southwest China's Sichuan province at 13:00 on April 24.

POL support: The Quartermaster, Materials and POL Division of the Logistics Department of the air force under the Beijing Military Area Command (MAD) of the Chinese PLA received an order on the morning of April 24 to rapidly collect and transport 10-odd-type 2.6-ton aviation oil exclusively for the disaster-relief aircraft to the quake-hit areas. The division rapidly launched the emergency POL support preplan and completed the preparations in the afternoon. As of the press time, the aviation oil had been on its way to the quake-hit areas, ensuring continuous supply of POL for disaster-relief aircraft.

Post-disaster epidemic prevention: The National Earthquake Disaster Emergency Rescue Medical Team rapidly launched the post-earthquake epidemic prevention work in an all-around way, including quarantine, disinfection, publicity and education, on April 24. As of the press time, the medical team had disinfected 30,000-odd-square-meter areas, explained disinfection methods to 600-plus villagers, distributed 500-odd brochures and presented disinfectant and disinfection equipment valued at 20,000 yuan (US$ 3237.3 dollars).
