BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met with the Togolese Armed Forces Chief of Staff Atcha Titikpina Tuesday, with both sides pledging closer military ties.

Both spoke highly of the bilateral friendship, and recalled achievements in military cooperation, such as personnel training, exchange visits and equipment technology.

Liang thanked Togo for its support on issues concerning China's core interests, saying the Chinese army highly values relations with the Togolese army and will work with the country to lift military cooperation to a new level.

Titikpina said Togo supports the one-China policy and is ready to advance military cooperation.

Earlier Tuesday, Titikpina also held talks with his Chinese counterpart Fang Fenghui.

He kicked off his week-long visit to China on Sunday.
