The 4th Fragrant Hill Forum hosted by the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) opened in Beijing on November 15, 2012.

Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Unite as One and Share Security" at the opening ceremony of the forum.

China unswervingly follows the path of peaceful development, advocates in international relations the principles of equality and mutual trust, inclusiveness and mutual learning, and cooperation and win-win to jointly safeguard international fairness and justice, Qi Jianguo said in his speech.

In face of the profound and complex changes in the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, China actively implements the new security concept featuring mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and coordination, and advocates that various countries should clarify common responsibilities and undertake common tasks, so as to achieve common security, the PLA deputy chief of general staff stated in his speech.

Sun Sijing and Ren Haiquan, respectively political commissar and vice president of the AMS, were present at the opening ceremony of the forum.

The Fragrant Hill Forum aims at promoting dialogues and exchanges between defense scholars from various countries. The 4th Fragrant Hill Forum attracted more than 40 renowned scholars with defense-related think tanks and academic institutions from 21 countries. They will have brainstorms from Nov. 16 to 18 focusing on the theme of "New Problems and New Ideas on the Security of the Asian-Pacific Region".
