Carved symbols in Zhejiang date back 5,000 years

Ancient writings dating back 5000 years have been unearthed at the Zhuangqiao archaeological site in East China’s Zhejiang Province. Analysts believe the discovery will rewrite history books, as the findings are older than any type of known written language in China.

Previously, the oldest writings were thought to be the Oracle bone scripts, dating back 3,600 years, but these newly discovered symbols have turned the clock back at least 1000 years.

Archaeologists have scientific evidence that the marks are not random, but a primitive type of written language carved on 240 pieces of pottery. They also believe the carvings are not just words, but even form sentences, and provide great insight into the early developments of Chinese civilization.
