Most people believe being a journalist is a painstaking and risky profession, according to a survey released by Fudan University yesterday to coincide with 13th annual Journalists' Day.
About 16 percent of respondents said they follow journalists' blogs or microblogs and 11 percent said they have talked with journalists, which helped form their understanding of the job.
About 85 percent of the 301 respondents said it's a painstaking job and 56 percent said it's a risky profession.
More than 40 percent of those surveyed said it is an enviable career while nearly 30 percent people said it's a glorious job.
Most respondents said they were satisfied with the work of domestic journalists, according to the survey, launched by Fudan Media and Public Opinion Research Center.
Nearly 60 percent of interviewees praised Chinese journalists for their dedication.
Half of the respondents said they believe reporters have strong professional ethics.
