The China Food and Drug Administration will consult the Good Manufacturing Practices certification system used by drug producers to improve standards in baby milk formula production, said Teng Jiacai, deputy head of the administration.

Baby formula will be sold at pharmacies on a trial basis and substandard foreign milk powder will be banned from the domestic market when new regulations take effect in China.
>> Third parties aid customers' needs

But many Chinese still believe the most expensive goods are the best. With more Chinese people aware of a larger variety of products available to them, objective suggestions from third parties are starting to be appreciated.

The NDRC says it has launched an anti-trust investigation into a number of milk powder companies, Chinese and foreign included. Bios-time, Wyeth, Nestle, Mead Johnson, Abbott and Dumex are all on the list.

An increasing number of foreign and domestic milk powder companies have cut the prices of their products after the government launched an anti-monopoly probe earlier this month.
