The copyright infringement case between Apple Inc and Encyclopedia of China Publishing House (ECPH) has been appealed to a higher court by Apple, who refused to accept the amount of compensation decided by Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court, Sun Jianhong, the ECPH's lawyer, told the Global Times Thursday.
Apple claimed that they are not the operator of the App Store and should not take liability for their copyright infringement, Sun said. Apple also expected the higher court to review the compensation amount of 520,000 yuan ($83,700), which they believed is too high.
Apple could not be reached by press time.
