PARIS, July 16 (Xinhua) -- A neo-Nazi linked to Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik was likely to prepare a major terrorist attack in France, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls said on Tuesday.

"This individual, who was close to a neo-Nazi movement, was likely to prepare a large terrorist act. He represented a potential threat to society, as was showed by the violence of his remarks found particularly on the web," Valls said.

Kristian Vikernes was arrested with his wife and placed into custody earlier in the day by French police in Correze, southwestern France.

An anti-terrorist unit was searching his home for explosives and weapons, radio RTL said, after reports showed that his wife, a French who was enrolled in a shooting club, has recently bought four guns.

"The investigation will notably establish the conditions in which these (weapons) were acquired and their real objective," the minister added in a statement.

Vikernes, called also "Varg" (Wolf), was one of 530 supporters of Breivik's manifesto of xenophobic, racist and terrorist ideas, according to the report.

Vikernes was sentenced to 21 years in prison in Norway in the 1990s for stabbing a friend. He was released in 2009 and moved to France.
