KIEV, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Thursday congratulated his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama and all U.S. residents on the Independence Day.

"On behalf of the people of Ukraine and from me personally I sincerely congratulate you on your Independence Day," Yanukovych was quoted by his press-service as saying.

While wishing Obama good health, success and productive work, as well as peace and prosperity to the American people, the Ukrainian president pledged to remain committed to advancing the two countries' strategic partnership to benefit the peoples of Ukraine and the United States.

The Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday across the U.S. in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain.
