PARIS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- French Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius on Tuesday confirmed the use of the fatal nerve agent sarin against Syrian rebels during the country's long and bloody conflict.

"Analysis show the presence of sarin in the samples in our possession. In view of these elements, France now has the certainty that the sarin gas was used in Syria several times and with localized manner," Fabius said.

"It is unacceptable that the perpetrators of these crimes will benefit from impunity," he added.

France was testing samples of suspected chemical weapon elements used against Syrian rebel fighters and which were obtained by reporters with Le Monde newspaper.

Fabius said France would hand the results to United Nations.
