PRAGUE, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Four plundering cases have been reported as flood wreaked havoc in the Czech Republic, police chief Martin Cervicek said on Tuesday.
"These are repeat offenders with a rich criminal record," Cervicek said, adding that 2,000 more police were now in the streets. The increased patrols are mainly at night hours and will focus on the protection of property.
If convicted, offenders could face up to eight years in prison.
So far seven people have been killed in the floods, while four others were reported missing.
Plundering also took place during the previous floods in 2002 when 24 people were convicted.
