CAIRO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Court of Appeals has set May 11 to retry former President Hosni Mubarak and his Interior Minister Habib al-Adli over the case of killing protesters, state- run al-Ahram online reported Wednesday.
The former president along with his two sons Gamal and Alaa, as well as fugitive tycoon Hussein Salem will also be retried over charges of financial corruption and profiteering.
The retrial had been set on April 13, but it was adjourned, as presiding judge Mustafa Hassan Abdullah withdrew from the case and referred it to the Court of Appeals again.
Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment in June, 2012 in the case of killing protesters, but he appealed the court's verdict later. The Court of Cassation accepted the appeal and ordered a retrial for Mubarak and al-Adly.
On Monday, Cairo Court of Appeals ordered to grant parole to Mubarak in the case of killing protesters, but keep him in custody pending investigations in other cases.
On April 7, Prosecutor-General Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah ordered the extension of Mubarak's detention as interrogations revealed that he had kept public funds allocated for maintenance and other works in the presidential palaces for himself, his wife Suzanne Thabet and his two sons.
Mubarak ruled Egypt for about three decades and was toppled after nationwide protests sweeping the country on Jan. 25, 2011.
