TEHRAN, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi called for dialogue between the Syrian government and opposition, Press TV reported on Sunday.
In a meeting with visiting Omani parliament speaker al-Shura Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasir al-Mawaly, Salehi expressed Tehran's readiness to prepare the grounds for negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition groups, said the report.
Salehi reiterated Iran's position saying that resorting to military measures will not help resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Ending violence, dialogue between the government and the opposition, public vote and non-interference of foreign countries are necessary to end the Syrian unrest, he said.
The meddlesome measures adopted by some foreign countries in Syria only serve the "political goals" of the Israeli regime, he added.
For his part, Omani speaker stressed the importance of resolving the Syria crisis through political channels to prevent further violence and bloodshed.
