Myanmar, Russia vow to strength ties, friendship

YANGON, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and the Russian Federation have vowed to foster amity and friendship between the two countries, strength cooperation in human resources development, technology, health and education sectors, the official daily New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.

It was pledged when Myanmar President U Thein Sein met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov in Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday.

Lavrov also had talks with his Myanmar counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin in the capital on the day and the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, information, culture, sports, health, education, science and technology, defense and security, tourist, mining and energy, human resources development and capacity building.

The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
