Pu'er City is situated at the same latitude as the globally renowned coffee production bases such as Jamaica and Colombia. More than 100 years ago, French missionaries brought coffee to Pu'er; over 30 years ago, riding on the opportunity of China's reform and opening-up to the outside world, Pu'er coffee entered into the new era of industrialized and scale development; in recent years, as Pu'er Municipal Party Committee and Pu'er Municipal Government have firmly established the development idea of "Building an eco-city, pursuing green development" and have been cultivating the coffee industry as an advantageous backbone green industry, the coffee industry has been presenting a robust development momentum.
In 2012, with 650,000 mu of the coffee planting area throughout the city, 270,000 mu put into operation and a total coffee output of 36,500 tons, Pu'er became a main coffee production area and a major coffee trade center with the largest area, highest output and best quality in China. In the following 5 to 10 years, Pu'er City will expand the planting area of coffee to 1 million mu and develop the coffee industry into a grand industry with its value in excess of RMB10 billion. Five years later, 200,000 people will be expected to directly benefit from the coffee industry, and 100,000 people will be engaged in business related to coffee. They will build "Pu'er coffee" into one of the agricultural products integrating into the international market and continue the legendary development of coffee in Pu'er.
In the past few years, the world has witnessed the brilliant achievements and fast development Pu'er has achieved in the coffee industry. Therefore, no other place better deserves the title of "Coffee Capital of China" than Pu'er.
As coffee is a plant quite particular to its growing environment, people always say that the place where coffee grows must be a most beautiful and fertile one. This point can be well justified by Pu'er. China Fruit Marketing Association officially granted the honorary title of the "Coffee Capital of China" to Pu'er, marking Pu'er turning over a new page in terms of its development.
Looking into the future, Pu'er coffee will continue to get rooted in China and look ahead with international visions, and stick to the road of characteristic and sustainable development road featuring large scale, standardization, branding and internationalization, so as to build Pu'er into a quality coffee bean raw material base in the world and the largest coffee intensive processing base and trade center in China, keep expanding and enriching the connotations and denotations of the "Coffee Capital of China" and enable this brilliant name card of Pu'er to gain worldwide reputation.
