Highlights of the collection include a six-plate panorama of Beijing during the Qing Dynasty.
Richard Fattorini, Manuscript and Photo Expert, Sotheby's, said, "It takes a great deal of skill to take panaroma photograph, and this time it takes six individual photographs to make one panaroma..1.7 meters long...so it is a very very important photograph."
The collection includes pictures of the imperial Summer Palace which was flattened during the invasion by Anglo-French forces.
