Looking for a better way

Just as Qi said, many movie industry insiders are not supportive of ticket refunding. For example, famous mainland director Feng Xiaogang once called it an unrepeatable expletive and said that refunding movie tickets does not go in accordance with the running of the market.

Director Guan Er explained that every single ticket involves a number of institutions' interests, such as that of the theater, distributor, publishing company and producer.

Guan explained that a refund policy could be carried out as a permanent service "only when all of the related institutions agree to it… but in fact, none of them will."

Also, since each person has his or her own preference, the same movie may be regarded as wonderfully entertaining by one person but unbearable by another. And some insiders worry that by allowing refunds, some people will abuse the policy as an excuse to avoid payment.

One of the ideas up for discussion among some insiders such as Li Zeqing, an entertainment critic and founder of the now defunct shenpian.com show-biz info portal, raised a more neutral suggestion: tickets could be calculated by the hour.

According this scheme, audiences who leave the cinema within 20 minutes of the start of a movie only need to pay a cover charge, say 20 percent. But if they stay longer, they pay by the minute. It's like a taxi - the longer you occupy the seat, the more you pay.

We suggest you take your suggestions to the theater manager. Who knows? You might start a national trend.
