China should take all means to protect historic buildings (2)

(Xinhua)

Historic buildings of special significance such as the Huanjinlu Stele deserve careful protection, and can be used as traditional virtues education bases. However, certain local governments have damaged historical relics in recent years in the name of protecting or restoring them, reflecting their seriously distorted view of political achievements in the process of urban and rural development.

A scientific and effective system should be established to protect historic buildings. However, while the country is improving its law and regulations on cultural relics' protection, two ancient temples have been transformed into upscale clubs. Facing such an embarrassing situation, we expect the Beijing municipal government to launch an investigation into the incident as soon as possible. Meanwhile, this incident reminds relevant authorities to take all necessary means to protect historic buildings.
