E-commerce fuels domestic consumption (3)

By Xu Han (China Economic Net)

10:04, December 11, 2012

A computer is certainly inevitable for online shopping, but it seems that smart phones are playing an even more important role. There are all sorts of online shopping apps in app stores for mobile phone. A powerful and fast smartphone can put games, video, music and other interesting apps, including online stores of course, into people's pockets. Motorola has recently introduced its new iMT788, an ultra-fast smartphone that sports an Intel processor. This new phone has a beautiful look and fast and smooth experience. What impressed the reporter most was what Yang Xu, Intel's global VP and president of its Chinese market, said: "Smartphones are becoming an indispensible element of modern life". We used to believe that mobile phone is an indispensible tool in people's life, but now, as Yang Xu put it, it has become an "element of modern life", and a part of modern life.

On the surface, price seems to be the most appealing element during the sales on November 11. When we are talking about expanding domestic demand, we tend to pay more attention to traditional approaches and traditional industries without attaching due importance to the fact that ecommerce has become an important platform for boosting domestic demand. Now, expanding domestic demand is the strategic focus of China's economic development. The space of China's market is vast, with huge consumption demand lurking everywhere. Such consumption demand also needs proper channeling by export, and the channeling should be diversified. Different approaches should be taken to expand domestic demand. The successful promotion of personal information application and improvement and development of hardware and software have all contributed to laying a better foundation for expanding online consumption. This has also opened up new possibilities for conventional retailing enterprises, who should make more effort to solve the new problem of how to cope with the impact of IT application.
