Dengue cases in Sri Lanka exceed 100,000

COLOMBO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has reported more than 100,000 dengue cases and 77 deaths so far in 2026, according to the tally by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health.

A total of 100,127 dengue cases had been recorded as of midnight on Sunday, according to the ministry.

Among the provinces, the Western Province recorded 52,562 cases, accounting for 52.5 percent of the national total.

Gampaha recorded the highest number of cases among districts and reporting units, with 21,234 infections, or 21.21 percent of the total. Colombo followed with 19,634 cases, while Kandy reported 7,624.

Monthly figures showed that July recorded the highest number of cases so far this year, with 29,964 infections.
