Trump announces pick for acting Army secretary

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Adam Telle, the current assistant secretary of the U.S. Army for civil works, will serve as acting secretary of the Army, just days after U.S. media reported that Dan Driscoll had submitted his resignation.

"I am pleased to announce that Adam Telle, the current Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become Acting Secretary of the Army, effective immediately," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

The Wall Street Journal and other U.S. media outlets reported on Monday that U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll had submitted his resignation to Trump following months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The media report noted that Driscoll, who disagrees with the defense secretary over the direction of the service and the ouster of numerous senior army officers, is expected to leave the Pentagon "in coming days."

The secretary of the army requires Senate confirmation, but an acting secretary can generally serve temporarily without Senate approval.
