World's largest-diameter underwater shield tunnel opens beneath Yellow River

Drivers can now cross the Yellow River, China's second-longest river, in just about five minutes, as the 5,755-meter-long Huanggang Road Yellow River Tunnel opened to traffic on Tuesday in Jinan, east China's Shandong Province.

As the world’s largest-diameter underwater shield tunnel, it features a single-bore, double-deck design and a shield-driven section of roughly 3.3 kilometers, bored by a shield tunneling machine with a cutting diameter of 17.5 meters.
