Discover Wudi Lake in Shangri-La, a blue-green jade cradled by snowy mountains

(People's Daily Online) 09:20, May 13, 2026

Deep within the Dilong Snow Mountains in Shangri-La, southwest China's Yunnan Province, lies a hidden highland wonder at an altitude of about 3,800 meters – Wudi Lake (Bottomless Lake). In early summer, the lake's waters shift between blue and green with the changing sky, so clear that you can see to the bottom. Ancient forests and alpine meadows embrace the lake on all sides, while blue skies, snow-capped peaks, and grasslands weave together into a scene of serene stillness – a dazzling "jewel of the highlands" embedded deep in the Hengduan Mountains.
