China to advance green development over next five years
BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China will advance green development over the next five years as part of efforts to pursue harmony between humanity and nature, an official said during the latest episode of China Economic Roundtable, an all-media talk show hosted by Xinhua News Agency.
Liu Rihong, an official from the Research Office of the State Council, stated that demand for a better environment has grown as living standards have improved, and that China has made solid progress under the Beautiful China Initiative.
Further efforts will be made to protect the blue sky, green land and clear water, with breakthroughs in pollution prevention and control in key regions, industries and targets, he said.
China will also continue to steadily increase the share of wind, solar, hydro and nuclear power, and a number of clean energy bases will also be developed, Liu added.
Key sectors, including industry, construction, transportation and energy, will accelerate their green and low-carbon transition. China will also improve its carbon trading market and carbon footprint management system, and promote a green and healthy lifestyle throughout society.
