BEIRUT, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli airstrike on the village of Jwaya in southern Lebanon Wednesday afternoon killed a Hezbollah member and injured another, according to Lebanese sources.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported the strike targeted a vehicle in the Tyre district. The Public Health Emergency Operations Center confirmed one fatality and one injury.
Lebanese security sources told Xinhua the deceased was Hussein Hamza, a Hezbollah member.
Israeli army Spokesperson Avichay Adraee said on the social media X that the Israel Defense Forces attacked a "terrorist" member of Hezbollah in the strike.
The airstrike came despite a U.S.-and French-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that took effect on Nov. 27, 2024. The Israeli military periodically conducts strikes in Lebanon, citing the need to counter Hezbollah "threats," and maintains forces at five main points along the Lebanese border.
