The International Conference on the Ideas of Human Rights in Ancient Chinese Classics has announced a call for papers from both domestic and international participants.
The conference invites experts and scholars in the humanities and social sciences, including literature, history, philosophy, and human rights law, from universities, research institutions, and cultural institutions worldwide to submit their original, unpublished works.
There are no restrictions on the theme or field of the papers, which can cover literature, history, philosophy, and other social sciences. The book series “The Hundred Classics on Traditional Chinese Culture”can be used as a reference, and the materials could be excavated from classical literature such as the Confucian classics, historical records, philosophical writings and miscellaneous works in order to probe into issues related to human rights.
Papers can be written in either Chinese (around 10,000 characters) or English (around 7,000 words) and should adhere to academic standards.
The submission deadline is Aug. 1, 2024. Authors should send their papers in Microsoft Word format along with their personal profiles to the conference email.
The conference organizers will arrange for experts to review the submissions and invite the authors of selected papers to attend the conference in early September. Authors whose papers are not selected will not receive separate notifications.
The conference aims to enhance the exploration of ideas, strategies, systems, and historical experiences of human rights found in ancient Chinese classics while encouraging exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese civilization and other civilizations worldwide. It also seeks to contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to the collective development of human rights.
The event is jointly hosted by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hunan Provincial Committee, and Hunan University. It is jointly organized by Yuelu Academy and Law School at Hunan University.
The conference is scheduled to take place at Yuelu Academy of Hunan University in Changsha, central China's Hunan Province, in the second half of 2024, with specific dates to be announced later.
Multiple submissions have already been received from Chinese scholars, and scholars from countries such as Portugal and the United States have expressed their intention to participate in the conference.
