Taiwan's security cannot rely on U.S. weapons: defense spokesperson
BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The security of China's Taiwan region depends on the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait rather than some weapons provided by the United States, said a defense spokesperson on Thursday.
Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to a news report that Taiwan authorities plan to procure armaments from the United States.
Relying on the United States to seek "Taiwan independence," the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are turning Taiwan into an arsenal and an island of explosives. Such moves will push the island to the brink of disaster and inflict massive suffering on people in Taiwan, said Wu.
Wu added the People's Liberation Army is well-prepared and will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and maintain peace and stability across the Strait.
