Iran, Brazil highlight role of BRICS in shaping global order
TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Brazil have jointly advocated for the advancement of multilateralism and highlighted the important role that multilateral frameworks such as the BRICS can play in establishing a lasting and development-oriented global order, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The two sides made the appeal on Thursday at the 12th round of the bilateral political consultations in the Brazilian capital Brasilia, where officials from both sides discussed a range of bilateral and international issues, the ministry said in a statement.
The talks were co-chaired by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani and Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, secretary for Africa and the Middle East at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the talks, the two sides discussed peaceful solutions to ongoing disputes on the international arena and rejected unilateral sanctions. They also called for increased cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, culture, science, environment, tourism and more parliamentary exchanges.
Bagheri Kani said Iran and Brazil can play a significant role in strengthening multilateralism and promoting the interests of independent states.
BRICS is a five-member bloc that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
