Launched in 2022, the marine ecological protection and restoration project in Caofeidian of Tangshan is designed to cover an area of 636 hectares by building an ecosystem comprising shellfish, seaweeds and artificial reefs. Restored seaweed beds have so far covered 80 percent of the planned area.
The seaweed ecosystem means significantly to protection of biological resources, and it also improves nearshore non-biological environment and resistance to tides.
