Pu’er is a prefecture-level city that boasts most ethnic minority groups in China. The city has 26 ethnic minority groups, 14 native nationalities, and 9 minority autonomous counties, with 61% of the population being ethnic minority groups. Lancang is the only Lahu Autonomous County in China; Mojiang is the only Hani Autonomous County in China. The city has the Pu’er ethnic group unity oath tablet that is praised as the first tablet symbolizing national unity since the founding of the new China. It is also the birthplace of such high-quality literary and artistic works as the nationally famous Love Song of Reed-pipe Instrument, The Va People Sing New Songs, Wedding Vows and so on.
