Baidicheng is situated at the entrance of Qutang Gorge, the first of the Three Gorges, north of the Yangtze River. It is within the boundaries of Fengjie County, Chongqing.
The small city used to sit on top of Baidi Hill, and has many temples and gates. It is now situated on an island, due to raised water levels following the construction of the Three Gorges Dam.
Badicheng was named after an Eastern Han Dynasty figure who built the castle and named it after himself.
