The everyday life of juvenile delinquents in a penitentiary in Nanchang, Jiangxi province was recently revealed to the public. Quite different from the image of prisons as ground zero for dirty cells and unsavory food, the caring Nanchang correctional center offers clean facilities and education opportunities for the young people it houses.
The penitentiary currently boasts six training courses, including sewing, home appliance maintenance, cooking and computer science, enabling 3,806 inmates to acquire certificates of professional qualification. In addition, the penitentiary also offers art and music classes to enrich the lives of inmates.
The institution's cafeteria is large and clean. Inmates are not allowed to talk or waste food during meals. According to a correctional officer at the penitentiary, the cafeteria offers unlimited rice in order to guarantee the physical health and growth of residents.
