On Aug. 26, a Ningbo resident surnamed Cao accidentally dropped 9,900 yuan in cash into a squat toilet aboard a moving train. The money, 99 100-yuan bills, flew out of the train through the toilet. Fortunately, two railway police officers from Hangzhou South Railway Station walked nearly 8 kilometers along the railway and managed to recover all but 200 yuan of the original.

Cao and her husband were on a train from Hohhot to Ningbo when the incident occurred. The cash was the couple's travel funds, which Cao was carrying in a bag.

As she went to use the train's toilet, Cao inadvertently turned her bag upside-down, causing the money to fall into the squat toilet fly off the train. She immediately rushed out of the toilet and asked a railway police officer for assistance. The officer contacted the police station at Hangzhou South Railway Station.

Starting from Xiaoshan West Railway Station, two officers walked southward along the railway line for about 1 kilometer and found nothing. They then turned north and found a 100-yuan bill about 500 meters north of Xiaoshan West Railway Station. Continuing in that direction, they walked another kilometer and recovered 7,000 yuan.

To find the remaining 2,900 yuan, police walked back and forth along this stretch of the railway several times. They examined bushes, small ditches and other possible hiding places, finally recovering 2,100 yuan. Later, they expanded the search area and found another six bills by walking further north. However, they weren't able to find the last two bills.

By the evening of Aug. 26, after searching along a nearly 8-kilometer stretch, the police called an end to the search.

Cao and her husband hurried back to Xiaoshan West Railway Station to recover their money. They were extremely grateful for the efforts of the police officers.
