Nearly half U.S. voters wary of Russian influence in presidential election

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Almost three decades after the United States won the Cold War against the Soviet Union, U.S. citizens' wariness against Russia lingers on, as a new poll finds 48 percent of U.S. voters suspect Moscow of trying to manipulate their presidential election.

The CNN/ORC poll, released Tuesday, has revealed that the 894 registered voters are split when asked if "the Russian government is attempting to influence the outcome of the U.S. presidential election," with 44 percent answering no and 8 percent saying they don't have an opinion.

The result is consistent with the general opinion of U.S. voters toward Russia, with the poll showing 37 percent of voters seeing Russia unfriendly and 21 percent categorizing the country as enemy. As comparison, 31 percent and 8 percent of those polled see Russia as friendly and as an ally respectively.

In light of the mass leak of Democratic Party emails that gravely damaged Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's image, 61 percent of the surveyed said they were more concerned with Russian hackers stealing emails than that Trump would suggest Russian hackers to get Clinton's emails.

The poll also covered a wide range of subjects to evaluate the post-convention election landscape. The result showed that while approval ratings improved for both candidates, Clinton achieved more gains over Trump on foreign policy issues.
