July 28, 2016 marked the 40th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake, in which 242,769 people lost their lives. Since the natural disaster, however, Tangshan has achieved rapid development.
Currently, the city is striving to transform from an investment-driven economy to an innovation-driven one. Tangshan hopes to become a window to northeast Asia, a new industrial hub of the Bohai Bay Rim area and a vital pillar in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei economic zone. Reborn from the quake, Tangshan is on its way to prosperity.
