Zhang Chengliang, the owner of several Hangzhou eateries, has made the decision to provide outdoor laborers with free mung bean soup during the hot days of summer.

Zhang told thepaper.cn that he hopes to help the workers feel refreshed by offering them a complimentary bowl of soup.

From July 11 to September 10, generally the hottest days of the year, Zhang's restaurant will cook and pack 500 servings of mung bean soup, in addition to continuing regular service of its noodle dishes. Two hundred customers can come to the restaurant to pick up takeaway mung bean soups, and the other 300 bowls will be handed out by volunteers to those workers who cannot leave their posts.

The soup plan is not Zhang's first foray into charity work. Zhang owns two noodle restaurants in Hangzhou and uses part of his profits to help primary and middle school students in Lishui and Quzhou, two underdeveloped regions in Zhejiang province. Zhang also offered sanitation workers 30,000 bowls of noodles as free breakfast from December of 2014 to March of 2015, and between January 1 to February 22 of 2016.

Zhang recently opened a new restaurant selling fried rice in January 2016, and he promises to donate 1 yuan from each bowl of rice that he sells.
