The Chinese embassy in Germany has called for an impartial investigation into the death of a Chinese student last month, and to deliver the result as soon as possible.
Chinese diplomat Zhou Anping has urged police in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, to accelerate the investigation and bring the suspects to trial, while taking effective measures to ensure the safety and property of Chinese travelers and students living in Germany.
Zhou made the call during a meeting with Tamara Zieschang, interior department representative of Saxony-Anhalt, who sent her condolences to the victim and promised to work closely with local prosecutors to conduct an impartial investigation into the case.
The victim has been identified as Li Yangjie, a Chinese student who was studying Architecture at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in the eastern German region of Dessau.
Li failed to return after jogging on the evening of May 11. Her body was found two days later in bushes.
According to an autopsy, the 25-year-old Chinese woman had died of serious injuries to the head and face.
German investigators later arrested a couple in connection with the death. Prosecutors accused them of a sexual offence followed by murder.
But in a twist, investigators excused themselves from the case, claiming a conflict of interest, as one of the suspects is said to have close ties with local police.
As a result, authorities from another German city are being brought in to handle the investigation.
The Chinese Embassy in Germany has issued an emergency safety notice to remind Chinese students studying in Germany to pay close attention to safety.
