Recently, a video has been making the rounds online in Yichun, eastern Jiangxi province. In the video, a blind man is riding a motorcycle along a road, steering based on the instructions of his wife in the backseat.
Though he moves at a low speed, the man drives very steadily. Nevertheless, many netizens expressed concern about the safety of the man himself and that of other people on the road.
After verifying the video, local traffic police identified the blind man on Monday. They found that the man, surnamed Rao, works at a massage parlor in Yichun and goes back to his hometown every month to visit his mother. Sometimes he rides a motorcycle in order to save money on bus tickets.
Rao said he listens to his surroundings and follows his wife’s directions. He usually wears sunglasses so other drivers don’t notice anything unusual, Rao added.
